One of my favorite things about summer is the fact that watermelon comes into season! I find myself snacking on it constantly because I just can’t get enough of its sweet, juicy flavor. So when the heat began to soar, it seemed natural to add it to a smoothie. I found that sweeter fruits like strawberries pair beautifully with watermelon due to their bright, tangy taste. Combining these two seasonal fruits into a refreshing smoothie is not only the best way to cool off on a hot day but also highlights the best flavors of summer.

This vibrant pink smoothie proves that simple recipes can be the most delicious. With only three ingredients needed, prep time is minimal. Plus, this strawberry watermelon smoothie is gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and contains only natural sugars!

STRAWBERRY WATERMELON SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS

A smoothie doesn’t need to be thick and gloppy or packed with exotic powders and supplements to be healthy. This one is light, refreshing, and supercharged with just three simple, real foods.

  • Strawberries: You can use either fresh strawberries or frozen strawberries for this recipe. Both will taste great.
  • Watermelon: Use a fresh, ripe watermelon. Seedless varieties are best in oder to avoid having to sieve the mixture but seeded varieties are fine too!
  • Lemon Juice: It’s best to use freshly squeezed lemon juice. You can also substitute it with lime juice.

OPTIONAL ADD-INS AND VARIATIONS FOR STRAWBERRY WATERMELON SMOOTHIE

  • Coconut Water: For a hydrating tropical flavor.
  • Honey or Agave Syrop: If you prefer a sweeter smoothie.
  • Mint Leaves: Mint adds a refreshing and aromatic flavor that complements the fruitiness. Simply add a few fresh mint leaves to the blender along with the other ingredients. It will infuse the smoothie with a cool, invigorating touch.
  • Ice Cubes: For a colder, thicker smoothie, refreshing taste, add ice cubes. Just blend the ice cubes with your other ingredients until smooth.
  • Chia Seeds: For a thicker smoothie, add chia seeds. They absorb liquid and swell, making the smoothie richer. Just blend them in or let the smoothie sit for a few minutes to fully hydrate.
  • Banana: Simply add half or a whole banana to your smoothie to blend for a creamy texture, added fiber, and natural sweetness.

Prep Ahead Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie: To make smoothies in advance, you can prep the ingredients (strawberries, watermelon) and store them in freezer bags. When you’re ready to make the smoothie, simply blend the frozen ingredients with your liquid of choice.

HOW TO STORE

While you can store a smoothie for later, this sweet smoothie is best enjoyed fresh. If you need to store it, keep these tips in mind:

  • Refrigerate: Pour any leftover smoothie into a glass pitcher with lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Make sure to shake or stir before you drink it the next time, as separation may occur.
  • Freeze: Pour the smoothie into ice cube trays and freeze. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. To enjoy later, blend the smoothie cubes with a little water or liquid of choice until smooth.
