Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Aluminum foil
  • Large pot
  • Large mixing bowls
  • Slotted Spoon

Ingredients

  • 600 g green beans (washed and trimmed)
  • 400 g slice thick bacon strips (cut in half)

Barbecue Sauce

  • 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon natural honey
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • salt (to taste)
  • black pepper (to taste)
  • fresh parsley (chopped for garnish) optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Trim the ends of the green beans. Wash thoroughly under cold running water.
  • Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 2–3 minutes, or until just tender.
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the beans to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
Drain the water, then spread the beans on a clean kitchen towel and pat completely dry.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, honey, chili pepper powder, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until smooth and fully combined.
  • Divide the green beans into equal portions, about 5-6 beans per bundle.
  • Wrap one slice of bacon tightly around each bundle, starting at one end and overlapping slightly. Place the seam underneath the bundle.
Arrange the bundles seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat until all beans and bacon are used.
  • Using a pastry brush, coat the top of each bacon-wrapped bundle with the glaze. Cover loosely with foil and place the baking sheet in the center of the oven.
  • Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 20 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and nicely browned.
  • Remove from the oven and let rest for 3–5 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley (optional). Serve warm as a side dish or appetizer.

Notes

To Store: Let the baked green bean bundles cool, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5–6 minutes.
